ABOUT MORA STUDIO

A practice built on patience and proportion

We're an interior design studio based in Bukit Damansara. We work with people who want their spaces to feel genuinely considered — not styled for a photo, but shaped for a life.

OUR STORY

Where Mora Studio came from

Mora Studio was founded in Kuala Lumpur with one clear intention: to treat interior design as a discipline that serves the people living in the space, not the portfolio of the designer.

The name comes from the Latin root for "pause" — a reminder that good design asks questions before it offers answers. In a city that moves quickly, that stillness matters. We think the most interesting homes and offices are the ones that hold clues about the people in them.

We began working primarily with residential clients — apartment owners in Mont Kiara, terraced homes in Bangsar, newer units in Damansara Heights. Over time, we've taken on selective commercial projects where the brief has suited our approach: small cafés, private offices, boutique studios.

Our process is slow by intention. Each project starts with listening, not drawing. We believe a well-built brief is already half the design done.

OUR MISSION

What we're here to do

To create spaces that are honest about how people actually live — not aspirational showrooms, but warm, functional environments with a clear point of view.

Proportion over excess

We work with what a space actually has, not what it could theoretically contain. Less often makes more sense.

Transparency in process

Clients are never left guessing. Each phase is documented, decisions are shared, and costs are discussed plainly.

Materials that last

We choose materials with longevity in mind — finishes that age well in Malaysia's climate, not just ones that photograph well on the day they're installed.

THE PEOPLE

Who you'll be working with

SR

Sofia Razak

Founder & Lead Designer

Sofia established Mora Studio after a decade working in design firms across Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Her approach centres on spatial listening — understanding how a space is felt before it's drawn.

AH

Ahmad Hafiz

Project Designer

Ahmad handles design development and 3D visualisation. He has a particular interest in material layering and lighting — two areas that determine how a space actually feels to inhabit day to day.

YT

Yee Ting

Renovation Coordinator

Yee Ting manages vendor relationships and site oversight for Terrain Management projects. She's built strong supplier networks across the Klang Valley and brings a clear-headed approach to renovation timelines.

HOW WE WORK

Standards that shape every project

Written briefs, always

Every project begins with a documented brief. We don't proceed on verbal agreements. A clear written record protects both sides and keeps the project on track.

Site verification before specification

We visit every space before specifying materials or furniture. Dimensions on paper and conditions on site are rarely identical — we account for what's actually there.

Vendor accountability

We only work with contractors and suppliers we've vetted. Relationships built over time — not the cheapest quote on the day — form the basis of our renovation partnerships.

Client information stays private

We do not share project details, images, or client information without explicit consent. Some clients prefer their homes to remain entirely private. That preference is respected completely.

Structured feedback cycles

Review rounds are built into the process. Feedback doesn't happen informally mid-build — it happens at the right moment, with the right information in front of everyone.

Climate-appropriate choices

Materials are chosen with Malaysia's humidity and heat in mind. A finish that looks good in a catalogue from Europe does not always perform well in a KL apartment. We specify accordingly.

OUR EXPERTISE

Interior design in Kuala Lumpur — how Mora Studio approaches the work

Interior design in a city like Kuala Lumpur presents a particular set of conditions. Units are often compact. Natural light varies by floor, facing, and neighbouring buildings. Construction quality differs between developments. These aren't obstacles — they're the actual design problem. Mora Studio works within these realities rather than around them.

Our practice covers three connected stages of work: understanding the space and its occupants, developing a layered design response, and managing the physical build. Not every client needs all three. Some arrive with a finished brief and need skilled execution. Others need help working out what the space could become before any decisions are made. We structure our services to meet people where they are in that process.

The Klang Valley's residential and commercial design landscape has grown considerably in the past decade. Clients are more informed, suppliers are more varied, and construction methods have broadened. Mora Studio works at the intersection of that expanded choice and the discipline needed to make coherent decisions within it — selecting materials, furniture, and lighting that work together rather than simply coexisting.

We hold membership with the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) and follow professional standards in project documentation, client communication, and construction oversight. Our work spans condominiums, landed residential properties, and small commercial interiors across Kuala Lumpur and the wider Klang Valley.
